The Saudi Ministry of Transport and Logistics is carrying out repair works in Makkah on roads leading to the holy sites to ensure the safety of pilgrims, improve travel to and from the holy sites, and facilitate the Hajj, officials said.
The works include the installation of protective barriers, fences, road signs and concrete curbs, as well as repainting road markings. Roads and buildings are also being repaired. Maintenance efforts have focused on improving the Hijrah route, as well as the roads of Jeddah and Mecca, but have also covered some parts of Mecca and the holy sites.
Some projects have already been completed, including lighting on the Hijrah route and the widening of some highways in Mecca.
The Ministry of Transport is responsible for the planning and implementation of air, land and sea transport in the Kingdom, including road maintenance and coordination of the national transport system.
