The Grand Mosque in Mecca was covered with 25,000 new carpets for Ramadan, a representative of the General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques reported on Monday.
Since the holy month is a time of increased worship and spirituality, the Grand Mosque is witnessing a rise in the number of people performing Umrah and attending prayers. Believers also gather at the mosque every evening to perform the Taraweeh prayer.
The representative added that inside the mosque there are 50 ablution areas, and in the courtyards — 3,000 toilets. Around the mosque are distributed 15,000 Zamzam containers and 150 Zamzam water stations to quench the thirst of believers before and after fasting.
Spokesman Maher bin Mansi Al-Zahrani added that the mosque is washed and disinfected 10 times a day, with 4,000 employees working under the supervision of 400 supervisors over a 24-hour period.
To ensure the health and safety of visitors, 4,000 pieces of equipment and machines are used, and to create a pleasant atmosphere — 3,000 liters of high-quality air fresheners.
