The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) and national carrier Saudia have announced an art design competition, the winner of which will decorate one of Saudia's aircraft.
The competition is part of Ithra and Saudia's efforts to support local artistic talent and provide global platforms for people to demonstrate their creativity and craftsmanship. The competition runs from June 6 to July 23.
Ithra said the winner will be announced in August.
Participants are invited to draw inspiration from the center's slogan «Inspire Your World» when creating their projects.
A jury composed of Saudi experts and creatives will evaluate all submitted works.
The competition jury includes Ammar Alabdali, general manager of the airline's branding department, renowned Saudi artist Luluwah Al-Homoud, whose works have been exhibited at international exhibitions, Haya Saad Al-Yahya, instructor of graphic design and multimedia at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal, Suliman Al-Fulayj, partner and general director of the marketing agency Shift, and Miad Al-Khatlan, representative of Ithra's branding department.
Yousef Al-Mutairi, head of Ithra's communications and partnerships department, said the center was pleased to join forces with Saudia as part of the two sides' long-term cooperation to deliver dynamic collaborative initiatives in the Kingdom.
«This exciting competition represents the enormous pool of talent we have in the Kingdom and provides a creative opportunity to make one's mark. Ithra is committed to developing the Kingdom's creative sector and nurturing its talents by providing opportunities to showcase the imagination, innovation and creativity of these talented people on global platforms,» said Al-Mutairi.
Every year Ithra announces open competitions for artists from Saudi Arabia and Saudia, as well as artists from the Arab world.
It is the driving force behind several key programs supporting the country's creative community, and Saudia also participates in national and cultural events.
At key moments, including Saudi National Day and the G20 summit, it has proudly displayed relevant artworks across its fleet.
Saudia Group Chief Marketing Officer Khaled bin Abdulqader Tash said the airline is very pleased to have the opportunity to take part in the competition.
«We always support such events and activities across the Kingdom, and we are often the first to provide support for creative events like this. Our aircraft are the perfect billboards to showcase Saudi Arabia's creativity to the world,» said Tash.
Ithra and Saudia signed a memorandum of understanding in September last year at the Prince Sultan Aviation Academy in Jeddah.
This included cooperation and strategic agreements, such as displaying the Ithra logo on a Saudia aircraft.
