Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, and his Dutch counterpart Wopke Hoekstra discussed international efforts to rescue the dilapidated oil tanker FSO Safer off the coast of Yemen in order to prevent an environmental catastrophe that could arise from the absurd practice of the Houthi terrorist militia, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.
In a telephone conversation, the pair also discussed strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in the interests of the two countries.
On May 11, the United Nations announced that it is seeking $144 million needed to finance an operation to salvage a tanker moored off the coast of the Red Sea in Yemen.
The sum includes $80 million for transferring more than 1 million barrels of crude oil that the FSO Safer is carrying in its storage, said David Gressly, the UN resident and humanitarian coordinator in Yemen.
A pledging conference jointly organized by the UN and the Netherlands is taking place more than two months after the UN and Yemeni Houthi militants reached an agreement to transfer the tanker's contents to another vessel.
