Pilgrims in Saudi Arabia performed the rite of beating the devil. He personifies the tradition according to which the devil tried to interfere with Ibrahim when he was going to pray.
The ritual takes place in the Mina Valley about 25 kilometers from Mecca.
After several accidents, the authorities of the country improved the conduct of the ceremony. The steles, which personified the devil, were replaced by a high wall. Stones for the rite are now prepared in advance and given to pilgrims in special bags. To avoid crowding, the routes along which the believers walk were significantly expanded and delimited into streams.
After the completion of all the rites, the “title” of the haji is added to the name of the pilgrim.
Recall that bad weather almost prevented the Muslims from performing the main ceremony. During the night, a violent storm overtook the pilgrims’ camp in Mecca. However, by morning everything was quiet, and the faithful were able to stand at Mount Arafat.
