RIYADH: The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia has announced that as of August 9, 2021, it will begin accepting Umrah requests from pilgrims to perform Islamic rituals, visit and pray in the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, the state news agency SPA reported on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Permits will be issued through the \u00abEatmarna\u00bb and \u00abTawakkalna\u00bb applications. The ministry aims to accommodate 60,000 pilgrims distributed over eight operational periods, raising capacity to two million pilgrims per month.<\/p>\n
Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Abdulfattah bin Sulaiman Mashat explained that the ministry has worked in coordination with other authorities ahead of the upcoming Umrah season to create a safe environment for pilgrims throughout their journey.<\/p>\n
For local residents, COVID-19 vaccination is a mandatory requirement for performing Umrah, visiting and praying in the two holy mosques. Pilgrims arriving from outside the kingdom must provide official vaccination certification from their country, in addition to the vaccine being on the list of vaccines approved by Saudi Arabia. Arrivals must also comply with institutional quarantine procedures.<\/p>\n
The deputy minister stated that the number of passengers on the shuttle transport will not exceed 50 percent of its capacity while maintaining safe distancing inside and verifying pilgrim permits issued through the applications before they are allowed on board.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has stated that it has completed organizational preparations to receive pilgrims from outside the Kingdom at the Grand Mosque starting Monday.
\nDeputy Secretary-General for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque Dr. Saad bin Mohammed al-Muhaimid said that this includes regulating entry and exit points and preparing all corridors, courtyards and squares for the influx of pilgrims.
