The first phase of the initiative will be launched next year, when the hotel will be able to look after 150 children.

Children will also be made aware of the rituals that their parents performed.

Pilgrims staying at the Clock Royal Tower in Mecca will be able to use childcare services from Ramadan 2023, the hotel's general manager says.

Abdulaziz Almos said to Arab News that the Fairmont hotel will house a kindergarten where the children of pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah will be looked after.

The first phase will be launched next year, and the hotel will be able to look after 150 children.

Almos added: «The second phase will be launched around mid-2024, when capacity will increase to 300–500 children.».

He said that this initiative is necessary because it will allow pilgrims to perform Hajj and Umrah while being confident that their children are being cared for.

He added that this will also give children an understanding of the holy city of Mecca and Islamic rituals at an early age, providing them with a religious foundation.

The children were cared for and entertained, and were also introduced to the rituals that their parents performed.

Almos said that high-tech bracelets will allow parents to locate their offspring, and cameras will monitor the children's facilities.

The general manager said that the current average length of stay at the hotel for foreign guests is five days, but the establishment is working to increase this period.

He added that this is being achieved through «improving the quality of the stay, creating places for religious entertainment, improving food and beverage outlets, and expanding opportunities for pilgrims to participate in trips and cultural activities.».

Salem Al-Shahrani, managing director of the hotel and three other facilities of the King Abdulaziz Foundation, said that the Fairmont Makkah will soon open two new restaurants as part of efforts to improve the quality of pilgrims' stay.

He said that the Asian cuisine outlet should open by the end of the year, and the sushi restaurant in the first quarter of 2023.

Almos added: «Our efforts and ambitions are part of a larger and nobler vision: Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.

«One of the goals of the vision is to enable as many Muslims as possible to visit Mecca and perform Umrah and Hajj without hindrance, smoothly and safely.».
